40 Million Americans on Food Stamps! by Wayne Hodges
Just when we thought the economy was on the rebound, the Department of Social Services reported otherwise by disclosing some rather disturbing news. A U.S. record 40.8 million Americans are currently receiving Food Stamps; an increase of roughly 20% from last year. Yikes. Matt Campbell of the Kansas City Star has the story. Click here for his report.. To add insult to injury, the national unemployment rate continues to marinate at a disappointing 9.5%.
Well, I guess it's safe to assume the federal government's economic stimulus plan didn't work. Professor Rock predicted gloom and doom for consumer markets (confidence down 9.8%). He was right. What's sad is there's practically no relief in sight. Think about it. Jobs are being exported; not imported. Domestically, most Americans refuse to partake in service related jobs (fast food restaurants, janitorial, etc). And many employers continue to hire immigrants, legal or not, in batches because most will work long, exhausting hours for extremely low wages, and no benefits.
Folks, this is going to get real ugly if something's not done fast. Real ugly.
13% of the country is on food stamps. If the number somehow doubles to 26% next
year, we're looking at a moderate form of socialism. Hate to say this. Really,
I do. But it appears we're nearing the cusp of another tragic economic collapse.
I'm talking the "D" word if you know what I mean. Man, I feel sorry
for the Obama Administration. Michelle is already catching flak for her weekend
vacation in Spain. What's next?
