The City is broke, they want to raise taxes or take away basic services (Police, Firemen, safety, sewers, and streets etc. (all that was guaranteed when annexed 50 years ago) They raise sales tax and now Property tax but the state report shows sales tax is down 15% for the last two months. Meaning people are leaving WYCO to shop, another great move City Idiots.
Answer to no money problems is build a new police training academy and a new Administrations building for District 500 and a new Library in Argentine with tax dollars?
Could I be just stupid? I can't see how spending taxes on crap helps taxpayers. Not spending tax dollars could sure help and lowering city expenses and salaries to Civil Servants might.... but then how do the Good Old Boys pocket money from not spending? Vote to Take your City Back!
Subject: ITEM OF INTEREST: We can't afford cops but we can afford a new cop training ctr??
Let's see the new budget was passed, we can't afford cops but we can afford
to build a brand new police academy for KCK.
Question : Is this police academy going to be for training just KCK cops or
for other jurisdictions? I am only familiar with the KCMO cop school; having
tried out for the police force a million years ago.
Police academy, convenience store plans on UG’s
agenda Aug. 26
Plans for a new police academy on the campus of Kansas City Kansas Community
College are on the Unified Government Commission planning agenda for 7 p.m.
Aug. 26.
The meeting will be in the commission chambers, lobby level, at City Hall, 701
N. 7th. It is open to the public.
The police academy would be constructed on 5.64 acres at the college. In recent
years, the police academy has been part of a strip mall on North 79th and Washington.
According to UG documents, the new police academy building is essentially a
9,000-to-10,000-square-foot metal building with stucco and glass fiber reinforced
concrete also used in the materials. It will resemble other buildings on campus.
The design for the campus includes a direct connection between Campus Boulevard
and State Avenue. Developers are proposing a security gate with controlled access
and a card reader system.
A new QuikTrip store at 78th and Tauromee is also on the agenda.
During the meeting, a change of zone petition from limited business to planned
general business will be presented for the QuikTrip project.
Mike Talcott, Overland Park, the applicant for the project, wants to build a
5,670-square-foot QuikTrip store on 2.6 acres. He plans to close and demolish
the existing store and gas station and construct a new building to the south,
toward Elizabeth Avenue.
The store could increase traffic in the area, as it will be bigger, but it could
solve some of the present parking problems, according to the staff. Gas pumps
would go from seven to 10 at the new location.
It will be a store with roads on three sides, as the roads in the area are being
widened and redesigned. The roads should be completed in about a year, according
to officials.
At a recent planning commission meeting, where a recommendation to approve the
zoning change was passed 7-1, two neighbors opposed the QuikTrip zoning, as
the store would be closer to their homes. The residents were concerned about
safety, noise and privacy.
Other items on the UG’s agenda include:
- Change of zoning at 11820 Hubbard Road from agricultural county to agricultural
city.
- Special use permit application for West Bottoms Steaks and Chops, 16 N. James,
a drinking establishment and restaurant with live entertainment;
- Special use permit for Family Man Concrete, 818 Splitlog;
- Special use permit for Quick Pick Auto Salvage, 1124 Pawnee, and also vacation
of an alley there.
- Special use permit for County Fair Foundation for grading and erosion control
at 13700 Polfer Road, the site of the new county fairgrounds.
